Imagination

GE is Imagination at Work - a diversified technology, infrastructure, media and financial services company. We serve customers in more than 100 countries and employ more than 320,000 people worldwide.

Then and now

GE traces its beginnings to Thomas A. Edison - the inventor of the electric lightbulb - who established Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In 1892, a merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company created General Electric Company. GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896.

In 2009, GE ranked among the top 10 in Fortune magazine's listing of the 50 Most Admired Companies in the World, ranking number nine overall and number one in the electronics industry.

From everyday light bulbs to fuel cell technology, to cleaner, more efficient jet engines, GE has continually shaped our world with groundbreaking innovations for over 130 years.
